Meet Lauren, a resilient fighter from Carteret, NJ, whose strength and determination have carried her through an incredibly challenging journey with breast cancer. In April 2024, Lauren first discovered something was wrong when she felt a hard lump in her breast. The pain led her to seek medical answers, resulting in a mammogram, ultrasound, and ultimately, a biopsy that confirmed her diagnosis. The news was overwhelming, leaving her feeling scared and emotional, but Lauren quickly found the strength to face this battle head-on.

Her journey has been anything but easy. From undergoing a double mastectomy to having lymph nodes removed and beginning chemotherapy, each step has come with its own struggles. “The treatment was very hard at times, and I had several reactions,” Lauren shares. Despite the physical toll, her biggest challenge has been staying positive and pushing forward without letting emotions take over. But through it all, she’s refused to let cancer define her.

Lauren finds her greatest support in her friends and a compassionate veterinarian at her workplace, who have stood by her side every step of the way. She also leans on her love for animals and spiritual practices, which bring her peace and motivation. “I stay positive by saying affirmations and praying,” she explains. These daily reminders of strength help her overcome even the toughest days.

When she’s feeling her best, Lauren loves spending time outdoors and staying active. But right now, her biggest goal is simple yet powerful: to beat this and inspire others facing the same battle. “We can all do it,” she says with conviction. Her message to others in the Fightstrong community is just as uplifting: “Continue to stay positive and tell yourself in the mirror every day that you can overcome anything—and you will.”

Lauren was referred to Fightstrong Foundation by a previous fighter, Aviann, who has been a source of support in her journey. Lauren requested gift cards to help with food shopping, so we provided her with ShopRite and Walmart gift cards, as well as Amazon for additional shopping needs. To show our appreciation for Aviann’s kindness in connecting us, we also surprised them both with an Aqua Spa gift card to enjoy a spa day or get their nails done together—a well-deserved moment of relaxation.
