Introducing The
Dave Wolff Award
The Dave Wolff Award is presented annually to a fighter supported by the Fightstrong Foundation who embodies the same qualities that made Coach Dave so special — strength in adversity, joy in everyday moments, and an unshakable spirit full of life. This award goes beyond recognizing someone who has fought cancer; it honors the way they lived through it — with humility, heart, and the ability to uplift others even in the darkest moments.
Coach Dave didn’t just impact the game — he impacted people. Though he passed before he had the opportunity to fully coach Joseph, he made his presence known in ways that would never be forgotten. From showing up to every game, to becoming someone Joseph would later pray to during his own battle with cancer, Dave’s spirit became a quiet force of comfort and clarity. He represented something more than a coach — he became a symbol of hope, resilience, and strength that doesn’t fade.
This award is our way of keeping his legacy alive. Each year, we recognize a fighter who reminds us of Coach Dave — someone whose presence brings light to others, whose outlook reflects perspective and purpose, and whose journey touches hearts. Through this award, we honor not only a person’s strength, but the ripple effect of their spirit — just like Dave’s.
Words from the Heart
“Dave had a great sense of humor. He was very caring and compassionate. He put his heart into everything he did. He was a wonderful husband, a great father, and when he coached, he treated all the boys like they were his own. He would be very sick but always bounced back and got better. The best thing I could have ever had was being lucky enough to have his three children.”

Joseph's Connection to Coach Dave
My Guardian Angel
"Coach Dave Wolff meant everything to me. I don’t remember much, except that he always said he couldn’t wait to coach me someday. Although he never got that chance, he showed up to one of my games — just to keep the book — and I’ve carried that moment with me ever since.
When I got sick, that connection only grew stronger. I found myself praying to him, feeling like he was my guardian angel, helping me battle cancer in a different way. I felt like I could be open and honest with him — and that feeling still stays with me to this day.
This award is how we keep his spirit alive, by recognizing fighters who carry the same energy and light Dave did — people who show up with joy, courage, and a will to live fully, no matter what they're facing."
