Meet John Kerfoot — a devoted husband, loving father, and dog dad from Rocky Hill, NJ. Originally from California, John moved to New Jersey nearly 25 years ago, where he built a beautiful life with his wife, Nicole, their daughter, Alex, and their two dogs, Sammy and Charlie.
In early 2025, John underwent a liver biopsy to examine some concerning spots. While awaiting results, he suddenly experienced extreme pain near his liver and was admitted to the ER. The next morning, the biopsy confirmed his diagnosis: Stage 4 colorectal cancer that had metastasized to his liver. His journey quickly intensified when metastasis was later discovered in his spine, leading to spinal fusion surgery. Though treatment has been effective in slowing the cancer, the side effects — pain, discomfort, rashes, hair loss, and lingering back pain — have been some of his greatest challenges.
Despite it all, John’s strength is anchored by his biggest supporters — his wife, Nicole, and their daughter, Alex. Their love and care keep him going through the toughest days. When he’s feeling well, John enjoys playing golf, hiking, and traveling — passions that fuel his hope for the future. His dream is simple but powerful: to grow old with Nicole and watch Alex navigate her life, chasing her own dreams.
We learned about John’s journey through our family member and volunteer, Melissa Nigro, who worked closely with Nicole to help create a meaningful donation list. One request stood out — a getaway trip to a Postcard Cabin. The family had planned this special trip but had to cancel it after a health emergency. We were honored to make it happen by donating a 4-night stay at a Postcard Cabin of their choice, so they can escape, recharge, and even bring Sammy and Charlie along for the adventure.
John’s advice to others in similar battles is honest and real: “It’s impossible to be positive all the time — and that’s alright. You will feel down and defeated, but the important thing is to continue to believe and push forward as much as you can.”
We love this family, we are praying for them, and we cannot wait to see John live out his dream of growing old with Nicole and watching Alex’s life unfold.
