Dana

Meet Dana Addivinola is a bright light in Toms River, New Jersey—a woman full of heart, creativity, and unshakable strength. On October 17, 2018, Dana’s world changed when she was diagnosed with Brainstem Glioma, a rare and life-altering form of brain cancer. But long before the official diagnosis, Dana was already in the fight of her life—struggling to get her voice heard. For a long time, she faced doctors who overlooked or dismissed her pain, forcing her to advocate fiercely for herself. That kind of strength—the kind it takes to demand to be seen and believed—is what makes Dana extraordinary.

Despite the challenges, Dana approaches life with a vibrant and joyful spirit. She fills her days with things that bring her happiness: painting, coloring, arts and crafts, cooking, and shopping. These aren’t just hobbies—they’re her therapy. “I stay positive and strong by staying distracted with things that make me smile,” she told us. “It helps keep my mind off everything I have to deal with, and makes each day more bearable.” Dana lives in the moment, savoring each day as the precious gift it is. She doesn't plan far ahead, not because she doesn't dream, but because she knows that waking up each morning is a victory in itself.

We first learned about Dana through our valued partners at Victory Home Remodeling, who were working on renovating the exterior of her home. When they heard her story, they didn’t hesitate—they reached out to us immediately, knowing that Dana’s courage deserved to be recognized. When we spoke with her, it was impossible not to be moved by her energy, her humor, and her absolute love for all things Sex and the City. As a huge fan of Sarah Jessica Parker and the iconic series, Dana lights up when talking about Carrie Bradshaw and the magic of NYC.

That’s when we knew exactly what to do. To give Dana a day she would never forget, Fightstrong Foundation gifted her a private “Sex and the City” van tour through New York City for her and up to seven guests—complete with visits to all the iconic filming locations. We also included a gift card to Carmine’s, one of NYC’s most beloved restaurants, so Dana could enjoy a delicious meal with the people who mean the most to her. It was our way of celebrating her passions, her strength, and her beautiful outlook on life.

But our journey with Dana doesn’t stop there.

On May 10th, we’re honored to be joining Dana for the New Jersey Brain Tumor Walk in Long Branch, a powerful event that raises awareness, builds community, and supports vital research. We’ll be walking in her honor and encouraging everyone in the Fightstrong community to show up and walk alongside her. To learn more or join the walk, visit our Events page.

Dana’s message to others battling cancer is a reflection of her own path:
“Keep fighting for yourself. You are your best advocate. Your voice is what truly matters in the face of your life and happiness. Make yourself happy every day, and surround yourself with those who love and support you. That’s what makes the fight worth it.”

We love Dana dearly and are endlessly inspired by her courage, light, and perspective. She reminds us every day what it truly means to Fightstrong—with heart, with humor, and with hope.
